For general planning, a 1,500-square-foot house may fall around capacities commonly associated with larger residential systems, but insulation, climate, ceiling height, windows, and layout can move the actual requirement significantly.
Total Square Footage Gives Only a Starting Estimate
Square footage helps establish a rough range, but 1,500-square-foot homes are not all thermally alike.
A newer home with good insulation, shaded windows, and standard ceilings may require less capacity than an older house of the same size with air leakage and strong solar exposure.

The condenser must also support three simultaneous zones and remain within requirements for refrigerant line lengths and elevation.
